The October Lunch carried on where the September Lunch had left off only, this time, with that competent raconteur, Johnston Sime, in the chair. Once again, in excess of 90 GROGS turned up, this time to hear Sir Craig Reedie who, in many ways, is a local boy made good. He is currently Vice President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), adviser to Glasgow's 2014 Commonwealth Games and President-in-waiting of the World Anti Doping Association (WADA). He brought all this experience to Braidholm in his very entertaining and interesting speech to the assembled GROGs. Craig illustrated his comment "sport is fun" with stories of his own undistinguished rugby career and early memories of watching the great Cliff Morgan at Murrayfield in the 1950's, an era which, sadly, many present could remember well! He entertained his audience with stories not only about rugby but about football, boxing, golf and his beloved badminton and recalled the memorable achievements of helping to bring badminton and rugby to the Olympic arena as well as helping to bring the Olympic Games to London in 2012 whilst providing some fascinating facts and statistics about that event. As might be expected of the man, Sir Craig easily dealt with a number of incisive questions from GROGs, covering such diverse topics as the football World Cup, the Brazil 2016 Olympics, the Paralympics and the UK 'One Nation/Two Nations' conundrum. Like his predecessors, Craig left with a bottle of the prized GROGS whisky, a GROGS tie and, through qualification, a GROGS membership card.
